Adios Portland.
Hello Burbank.
And on my third day I did not rest but I drove out to the coast with the dogs.
And it wasn’t really the coast, it was more of the bay (and a huge one at that).
I also made it to the Tillamook factory where I learned that I love cheese curds.
And then we drove back through beautiful country.
And now it is time to bid Portland adios. Many thanks to my gracious host John and my two roommates.
Oh, one last thing: I’m bringing back some donuts so stake your claim on one now via this blog.
Next trip: Nevada City, Ho!
If yesterday was about seeing the country, today was all about downtown Portland. I hit the outdoor market by the river, Powell’s Bookstore, the Pearl district, Deschutes Brewpub, I saw fancy Portland and down-and-out Portland but nothing compared to Voodoo Doughnuts.
Yes, that’s right, I said nothing compared to a donut shop. And all I need to convince you is this: they serve a maple bar with bacon. And I don’t mean bits of fake bacon mixed in. No, I mean a strip right on top.
And it was de-f**cking-licious!
First, I should thank my host for allowing me to crash at his pad.
And I should also thank my roommates for allowing me to use the bed.
Today was all about driving and seeing nature and it was spectacular. First we drove to Mt. Hood.
Then we drove to the river and up some tiny road to see some waterfalls (here’s some video first).
And some epic views.
Lordy, one could fall in love with this place.
Adios Burbank!
I’m going to Portland but first there’s a quick pitstop in Oakland. Imagine my delight to find a Peet’s Coffee in the terminal.
As I’m traveling a lot over the next few weeks, I thought I’d share a useful tip I picked up from John August.
Every time I travel, I use a Packing List. This way I know what to pack instead of running around like a headless chicken the night before. Yes, I know a few of you will mock me for having a list but I also know a few of you will use it on your next trip.
Enjoy and look for lots of pics from Portland.
I’m about to start a jet set month and first up I’m going to Portland, Oregon for the weekend.
What should I do there? What should I eat, drink, see?
