Also, I hope everyone survived Halloween. Here’s the evidence of my Halloween.

I’ve seen the Michael Jackson documentary twelve times. Yes, that’s right, a dozen times. No, I didn’t pay to see it; I was paid to see it (I worked on the release). No, I don’t have stock in Sony nor is Sony (or any of the other entities involved with this film) compensating me in any way (that take, FTC). No, I never really was an MJ fan. His music was around and I appreciated it but I never sought it out; I grew up a metal head.

It is with that preamble of a disclaimer that I say the following:

The Michael Jackson documentary is awesome.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a behind-the-stage music documentary that felt so real. Nothing feels staged or presented for the camera. Truth be known, this footage was meant for Michael’s personal archives. I don’t think it was ever meant to see daylight. He just liked having things recorded.

But I don’t want to get into a review as that would break my code.

Instead, I’d like to highlight the four on-stage ladies of THIS IS IT. If you were going to the shows in London, you would have seen these four right up there with The King of Pop.

First, there are the two dancer. From the second I saw their opening testimonials, I knew Michael chose these women not only for their remarkable dance skills but for the depth and warmth of their souls. First, there’s Tyne who doesn’t received much individual screen time yet manages to make a big impression.

Then there is Mekia who simply glows during her “The Way You Make Me Feel” dance duet with Michael.

Singing back up and duetting with MJ, you’ll find Judith who does a magnificent job on “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You” and “Man in the Mirror“.

Lastly, there’s Orianthi shredding it up on the guitar (and proof positive I can fall in love at first sight/sound).

Apologies that I can’t credit everyone, you were all doing magnificent work, but I wanted to give the ladies their due.

Also, I’m straight and single but you probably already guessed that.

BTW, Orianthi, if you’re ever looking for a good Latin guy to love, you know where to find me.

By now you’ve heard that next year’s Oscars will allow 10 nominees for best picture. Regardless if this ends up being a good idea or bad idea, we are half way through the year so we should have at least one contender, right? As I’ve seen 42 theatrical releases this year, I will suggest three possible contenders.

Of the movies I’ve seen this year, my three Oscar hopefuls are:

Up – Because it’s about time Pixar gets a nod.

Star Trek – I don’t think we will see a better big budget action flick this year.

Due to my NDA I can’t say anything (yet) but this movie comes out this summer and I think you’ll like this one.

BTW, it was much harder to pick three possibilities than I originally imagined.

On a tangent, it’s been one hell of a week for celebrity deaths. We lost Ed McMahon who gave us this awesome point of reference.

We lost Farrah Fawcett who advanced mainstream cheesecake (as well as many a young boy’s adolescence) thanks to this poster.

And finally we lost the King of Pop who, as a friend said, gave us dance moves you can quote. Here’s a video directed by my man Marty.

Michael Jackson – New Music – More Music Videos
