Moleskine Spokesman – September 12th, 2007

It occurred to me that some of you might not be familiar with Moleskine notebooks (which I mentioned in an earlier post). I can’t remember who turned me on to them but now I can’t get enough of these beautifully designed writing pads. I’ve tried just about every model and I seem to have worked out a specific use for my favorites.

Large Ruled Journal – This is where I jot down ideas and develop stories, be they feature length or short, fiction or documentary. I’ll even draw charts and some crude storyboards here.

Cahier Pocket Ruled Notebook – I use this for my day-to-day notes (Call an actor, email my lawyer, enter my film in a festival, etc.).

Cahier Pocket Squared Notebook – All of my small projects go in here; I’m talking about my one-day shoots, spec commercials and short documentaries. It’s perfect for notes, lists, storyboards and camera/floor plans. I don’t develop ideas or stories in one of these. They’re strictly for on-set and in the edit room.

Cahier Large Ruled Notebook – I keep one of these for work, be it a computer consulting gig or a job editing an industrial. I don’t put any personal or self-generated projects in here.

I’ve yet to try the Reporter Notebook – maybe that’ll replace my Large Ruled Cahier Notebook.
