First, I’m gonna say a couple of nice things about the movie. One, Shia LeBeouf does a pretty good job. His performance rises above all others. Two, the robots look good too.
Now the gloves come off.
This movie was a big pile of dog s#!t. Christ, you don’t even have to scratch the surface to find it offensive. All ethnic “others” are caricatures made to “shuck and jive” for the audience. Don’t believe me? Take a second look at how the movie portrays the two African-American characters. Oh, yeah, one is a computer wiz but look at him again when he dons those ridiculous glasses. What about the one Latino soldier? Or the soldier that wears glasses (you know, the smart, nerdy one). Still not convinced? Okay. Which Autobot dies? If you had to sum up that Autobot’s character type in one word, what would that word be? And how do the women fair? Just fine, if you believe they should all look and act and wear lip gloss like a stripper. The lead girl? Not much more than a teenage stripper. How about that hot “data analyst” with the Aussie accent? After she cracked the Decepticon code, I wanted to slip her a fin and get her to give me a nasty lap dance. I’m sorry, I’ve known some hot data analysts but not one has ever looked like a stripper.
Ah, Christ, just go see it and be incensed like me.
