Possibly the most disparaged movie genre besides horror, romantic comedies get no respect and with good reason. If I were to mention that genre and Kate Hudson in a single breath, does not your internal quality meter scream mediocre. Thank God we have Judd Apatow.
Relentless in mining the humor out of every scene and situation, KNOCKED UP is determined to make you laugh non-stop throughout its 129-minutes. In fact, I’d say that the laughs move so fast that it takes a second viewing to actually see/hear the entire movie over your own laughter. And while the set up feels ripped from any generic television sitcom, the result is anything but. This film actually surprises with its sincerity, raunchiness, sweetness and intelligence.
Praise and damn this film – it just raised the bar for romantic comedies.
