If you’ve read most of the reviews or talked to your hipster friends, then you’ve heard that DEATH PROOF is the better of the two. If you’ve been talking to a more hardcore genre nerd, then PLANET TERROR is the flick to beat. IMHO, the Robert Rodriguez splat-fest was better than I expected and the Tarantino one was not as good as I hoped (it’s somewhere around the level of KILL BILL but not nearly as good as RESERVOIR DOGS or PULP FICTION).
Regardless, the best thing was all the trailers. I’m dying to see MACHETE and DON’T maybe be one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. Rob Zombie’s trailer was flaccid but Eli Roth takes the cake for cramming in the most gross-out moments in less than three minutes. Yuck! If you have half a day to kill (lordy, this is a long one), then checkout GRINDHOUSE. At the very least, you’re getting your money’s worth.
